MedStart

BUILDING FOUNDATIONS IN MEDICINE

MedStart is the first step in the MedAchieve program. This first-year program focuses on the foundations of medicine, such as anatomy, physiology, immunology and genetics. Our approach aims to foster creativity in our students, and not only inspire them to attain their goals, but provide them with the skills and experiences needed to achieve them. Students will learn in an engaging, interactive environment while receiving personalized mentoring.

At the beginning of the year students are matched with individual mentors who are current medical students from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. Mentors work with their high school student proteges throughout the program to help them understand the material and to provide crucial guidance as they begin to pursue careers in Medicine outside of the MedAchieve program.

Course Pre-requisite: Must be current high school sophomore, junior, or senior student with minimum (2) high school semesters of science.

MEDEXCEL

APPLIED UNDERSTANDING IN MEDICINE

MedExcel is our second-year program at MedAchieve.  It aims to build upon the foundations established in MedStart and allows students to take their understanding one step further. The MedExcel curriculum will revisit the systems of the human body and analyze the ways they respond to stress, injury and disease.  Students will be taught the theory behind various medical evaluations, diagnostic tools and treatment options.

Students will continue to work one-on-one with a mentor during their second year with the program.  At the end of the year, students will design and complete a poster on a medically related topic of their choosing and give a presentation of their project findings.

Course Prerequisite: Must be a current high school student (10-12th grade) with minimum (4) high school semesters of science and have completed the MedStart program.
